If you’re in the mood for a taste of the Dominican Republic, Higuey Dominican Restaurant in Franklin Square, NY, offers a delightful escape into the rich flavors of traditional Dominican cuisine. Located at 1204 Hempstead Turnpike, this restaurant brings an authentic Dominican dining experience right to Long Island, with dishes that transport you straight to the heart of the Caribbean.

Walking into Higuey, you're greeted by the warm ambiance of the restaurant. The decor is simple but inviting, with a laid-back atmosphere perfect for enjoying a meal with family or friends. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, the staff here makes you feel at home with their friendly service. It’s one of those places where the vibe matches the food-comforting, familiar, and satisfying.

One of the first things you'll notice about the menu is the variety of options available. From savory stews to grilled meats and fresh seafood, there’s something for everyone. The restaurant's menu highlights popular Dominican staples, and every dish is crafted with fresh ingredients that make all the difference. If you’re unsure where to start, a good recommendation is their Mofongo. This iconic Dominican dish made of mashed plantains, garlic, and seasonings is served with a side of juicy, tender pork or chicken, making it an unforgettable experience for the taste buds.

If you're craving something lighter, try their Sancocho. It’s a hearty, flavorful Dominican soup that combines meats, root vegetables, and plantains in a rich broth. Perfect for a chilly day or when you need comfort food to pick you up. Another popular choice at Higuey is their Arroz con Pollo. This chicken and rice dish is a crowd-pleaser, with the rice cooked perfectly and infused with a delicious blend of spices.

For those who are fans of seafood, the ceviche here is also a must-try. Made with fresh fish marinated in citrus juices, it's a refreshing and tangy start to your meal. It pairs well with their sweet plantain tostones-crunchy, golden, and slightly salty, they make for an ideal side dish or appetizer.

What sets Higuey Dominican Restaurant apart from other eateries is its commitment to maintaining traditional Dominican recipes while offering a modern dining experience. This is my go-to spot, not only because it's close to home, but because the food is delicious. I cook almost everyday at home, but on days when I am not in the mood, this is where I go. Pernil is always good, as is their pollo guisado, carne guisada, and baked chicken. Mangu is on point if you make it for breakfast. Good portions.
